Why Josh McDaniels Rejected the Head Coaching Job for the Colts
Yesterday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they hired Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to become their head coach. Later in the day, Josh McDaniels decided to not accept the deal and will stay in New England. People are shocked and angry. Especially people in Indianapolis. It’s weird that Josh McDaniels decided to not accept the job.
- Could Bill Belichick be retiring and Robert Kraft told McDaniels he’s the favorite to become the next head coach in New England?
In the past few weeks, rumors have been floating around that Bill Belichick is thinking about leaving the Patriots to go to another team or that he’s going to retire. I felt like Belichick would’ve announced his retirement if the Patriots won the Super Bowl. However, since they lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, I think Belichick is going to stay. Recently though, I’ve been hearing that this could be Bill Belichick’s final season, so did Robert Kraft tell McDaniels that he’s the clear favorite to become the head coach for the New England Patriots? When you think about it, it’s not that bad of an idea. Josh McDaniels is well liked around the organization and he would have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time (Tom Brady).
2. He’s worried that his days in Denver will end up being the same with the Colts.
In 2009, Josh McDaniels was hired to be the Head Coach for the Denver Broncos. In his first season, a lot happened. McDaniels traded away Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears for Kyle Orton. He started 6-0 with Denver and the Broncos were Super Bowl contenders. After the bye week, the Broncos went 2-8 and missed the playoffs. Then, the next season, the Broncos went 3-9 and he was fired after Week 13. The Colts are headed in the same direction that the 2009 Broncos were in. He probably doesn’t want that to happen again.
3. Found out about Andrew Luck’s health
When Josh McDaniels was in his interview, he probably asked about Andrew Luck and his injuries. The Colts probably told him that Luck will be healthy going into the 2018 season. The Colts’ doctors are worried that Luck may need shoulder surgery. McDaniels found out about and said peace to the Colts.
