Avs defeat the Blackhawks 5-1
The Colorado Avalanche defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-1 to keep the Avs alive in the postseason race while the Blackhawks playoff hopes come to an end.
In the 1st Period, the Blackhawks scored first on a Power-Play goal scored by Brock Seabrook. The Avalanche had many opportunities to score a goal but the Blackhawks’ defense was lights out.
Then in the 2nd Period, the Blackhawks defense went missing. The Avalanche scored a Power-Play goal by Alexander Kerfoot. Then, Mikko Rantanen scored a goal to take the lead for the Avs and the Avs were just getting started. Tyson Barrie scored a goal to give the Avs the 3-1 lead at the end of the period.
In the 3rd Period, it got a little scary at the beginning. The Avalanche played sloppily and gave the Blackhawks an opportunity by giving the two Power-Play chances. The Avalanche should be thankful that the Blackhawks didn’t score at all. The Avs scored on an empty-netter thanks to Erik Johnson. Then Alex Kerfoot scored his second goal of the game to put an end to the game.
Hats-off to Semyon Varlamov who’s been lights out for the last few games. He saved 44 shots on 45 shots on goal. Also, Tyson Barrie expanded his point streak to 11 games.
The Avalanche take on the Kings at the Pepsi Center on Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
