Packers waive Justin Vogel
This might come as shock to some, as Vogel was a NFC Pro Bowl alternate. Vogel had a decent year last year. But it looks like the Packers had other ideas for the punter position. The Packers know what they’re doing. And their going with JK Scott . Packers fans shouldn’t freak out over a punter.
Just recently Scott signed his four-year rookie contract right before the Packers started their rookie minicamp on Friday. Scott was picked 172nd in the 2018 NFL Draft by Green Bay, and was pretty solid in Alabama. Yes, some think they could have used the pick on maybe a linebacker. But still they drafted a good player.
Vogel averaged 44.4 yards per punt for Green Bay in 2017, which was 24th in the rankings. The Packers gave up 5.7 yards per punt return last season. Which finished 7th in the league.
Scott is the Packers fourth punter in the last three seasons, as Tim Masthay handled that position for six years. But was eventually replaced by Jake Schum. Then the Packers would sign Justin Vogel as a UDFA out of Miami in 2017.
It should be interesting to see how Scott handles punting in Green Bay. And if he’ll stick around for long.
